Creativity and Innovation
Scientists and engineers are constantly facing design problems. How can I develop a more efficient battery? What pesticide would eliminate the target insect without causing harm to other species? Design problems are even more difficult now because modern society demands technologies that not only function but also cause minimal harm to health and the environment. Dramatic improvements in performance AND reductions in environmental harm cannot be achieved by incremental improvement of old technologies. New technologies, based on new ideas, are needed. This workshop will help participants develop their ability to come up with new ideas. Various strategies of ideation (idea creation) will be described and illustrated with exercises involving every member of the audience.
Prof Jessop was named a “top innovator" by New Technology Magazine and has received many Canadian and international awards for his creative new technologies.
