Physics Professor at the University of Jordan's (UJ) School of Science, Hanan Sa'adeh, has been recognized as a Global Spotlight Member of the American Physical Society (APS), a leading membership organization of professionals in physics and related disciplines.
This recognition aims to bring awareness to the great work she is doing within the physics community, as pointed out in the APS's Recognition Letter to Sa'adeh.
Sa'adeh has been featured in a special article at the website of the APS, titled “Shining a Light on the Excitement of Physics in Jordan". She is recognized for her leading efforts in establishing and supervising the LAMBDA Physics Group at UJ to “inspire the next generation of scientists, educators, and engineers in Jordan to spread the excitement of physics", as pointed out in the article.
The article spoke about Sa'adeh's early dream of initiating an outreach organization, back to the time when she was still a bachelor student at UJ, until the dream became a reality when she returned to UJ as a faculty member.
The mission of the LAMBDA Physics Group, according to Sa'adeh, is to inspire gifted students to find their creative way in delivering physics to the public; “to make physics more human and more accessible", as she said.
The article has also highlighted a few examples of the myriad outreach activities at UJ, concurrently held with worldwide events, for which Sa'adeh has been the instrumental organizer in Jordan.
It is worth mentioning that Sa'adeh received all her degrees of physics (B.Sc. in 2002 and Ph.D. in 2010) from UJ with distinction. She joined UJ's School of Science as a faculty member in September 2013. During her service at UJ, Sa'adeh received several research funding grants, fellowships and awards from prestigious international institutions and bodies, such as the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Austria, and the Swedish Institute (SI) in Sweden.
Besides being a member in APS Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics since 2017, Sa'adeh is also a member of the following APS forums: “Outreach and Engaging the Public", “History and Philosophy of Physics", and “Physics and Society".

The “Global Spotlight Member" recognition acknowledges the contributions of APS members from across the globe and highlights their service to their local or global physics community. It also notifies APS members throughout the world about opportunities available to physicists in various regions.
