The Department of Geology and Minerals was established in 1973 (currently known as the Department of Geology). The purpose of its establishment was to provide Jordanians with the opportunity to study geology in their own country and to assist Jordanian geologists coming from other universities in understanding and further studying Jordan's geology. Additionally, the department aimed to conduct applied geological research, explore mineral resources, study rocks, layers, geological structures, and groundwater, and collaborate with various institutions, agencies, ministries, companies, universities, and research centers involved in geological work in Jordan (both public and private).

Over the past years, the department has prepared and graduated a large number of highly knowledgeable and practically experienced human resources in its field of specialization at all levels: bachelor's, master's, and doctorate. These graduates have gone on to work in various locations that require such human resources locally, and their expertise has also been utilized in development programs in sister Arab countries. Additionally, they have worked in global research centers and exploration companies.

The department currently has 16 faculty members whose specializations cover various fields of geology comprehensively. In addition, there are many master's and bachelor's degree holders who assist in supervising practical laboratory teaching and operating the complex equipment and laboratory facilities necessary for scientific research and experimentation at the university. Since 1999, the Environmental and Applied Geology program has been adopted for both the undergraduate and graduate plans. Currently, the Department of Geology has 324 undergraduate students, 17 master's students, 17 doctoral students, and 10 students in the Master's program in Environmental Science and Management.

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1965 and it was the first chemistry department founded in Jordan. The department started master's program in 1972 and a doctoral program in 1995. The industrial chemistry program was founded recently in 2021. The number of students at the early years of the department did not exceed one hundred students. The department currently have about more than 550 bachelor students and more than 70 graduate students (Master and Ph.D).
The bachelor program was accredited by ABET in 2019.
The department of chemistry has grown to have thirty seven faculty members graduated from the best universities in the world, supported by more than 20 staff members. Several teaching laboratories are available in the department. These laboratories cover the different fields of chemistry providing an excellent training, in the field of chemistry, to the students of the department and many students from other scientific colleges.
There are several laboratories that provide a specialized analysis equipped with modern spectral, thermal and chromatographic instruments such as:
- Mass spectrometer (7 tesla)
- NMR 300 & NMR 500 MHz
- High resolution
- FT.IR
- Single crystal x-Ray diffractometer
- Elemental analysis (C, H, N)
- U.V-Vis
- HPLC & GC & GC-Mass
- Atomic absorption
- DSC & TGA
- Liquid Nitrogen facility
The faculty members are dedicated to provide all aspects of chemical knowledge and to make meaningful contributions in the field of chemistry. This is achieved by qualifying the chemistry graduates for work as well as to pursue their graduate studies, and in the long term to make significant influence in research and community service. The Department of Chemistry is characterized by its activity in the scientific research, which started since the beginning of the department. Thirty five faculty members in the department are involved in research that includes: applied chemistry, environmental chemistry, natural products, organic synthesis directed to biologically active compounds and solid state chemistry. The faculty members publish their work in prestigious peer-reviewed chemistry journals; they have published around fourty scientific articles in ISI Web of Knowledge journals in the year 2017.

Medical Laboratory Sciences Medical Laboratory Sciences6

In  1974 the Department of Biological Sciences introduced a subspecialty  in clinical analysis in order to provide local health care services and the community with highly qualified laboratory technologists. Later, in 1980, the Department of Biological Sciences launched a new program that grants a bachelor's degree in biological analysis. Then in 2016, the Department of Clinical laboratory sciences  was established as separated Department  from the Department of Biological Sciences.

The field of Clinical laboratory sciences utilizes biological techniques and instruments to analyze various clinical samples, which help physicians diagnose and treat different pathologies, and monitor the general condition of the patient. This specialty gives graduates the opportunity of employment as lab specialized technicians. The program is organized into terms and spans a period of four years during which the student gets a solid background in the theoretical and practical principles of the different laboratory sciences. These include hematology, blood bank, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, medical parasitology, medical mycology, virology, medical immunology and serology, in addition to molecular biology techniques, microtechniques, laboratory instruments, quality assurance in laboratory analyses and laboratory management, occupational health and safety, and the ethics of the medical laboratory profession. Moreover, the program includes field training during the fourth year of study, and carried out at hospital laboratories certified for training.
