The Department of Biological Sciences at the School of Science at the University of Jordan (UJ), in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) at the Public Security Directorate (PSD), held an awareness lecture addressing the dangers of drugs, their impact on individuals, families and society, and key approaches to prevention.
The lecture was attended by the Dean of the School, Prof. Mahmoud I. Jaghoub, along with faculty members, administrative staff and students. In his remarks, Jaghoub emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation between security institutions, universities and community partners to reinforce national efforts to combat narcotics and promote a culture of prevention.
Lt. Col. Nabil Al-Rawashdeh, Head of the Awareness and Education Division at the Anti-Narcotics Department, delivered the lecture, outlining the health and social risks associated with drug use and noting that certain substances can lead to rapid addiction from the very first use. He also explained the tactics employed by drug dealers to target vulnerable groups, stressing that awareness and early intervention remain among the most effective tools for protecting communities.
Majdoleen Sbeihat, faculty member and coordinator of the event, highlighted the role of universities in promoting responsibility, resilience and civic awareness through academic and extracurricular programs. She noted that Jordanian youth receive strong national support from His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, reflecting their central role in shaping the country’s future and safeguarding its stability.
The event comes as part of the University’s commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at strengthening community awareness and fostering a safe and informed environment for students.
