A Scientific Lecture on "Ion Track Formation" in the Physics Department

On Monday, November 10, 2025, the Physics Department at the School of Science, The University of Jordan, organized a specialized scientific lecture entitled "Ion Track Formation and Porosity in InSb and GaSb Induced by Swift Heavy Ion Irradiation." The lecture was delivered by Mr. Taleb Al-Wadi (PhD Candidate, Australian National University), who explored how an energetic ion beam can modify the structural and morphological properties of InSb and GaSb. He discussed how swift heavy ion irradiation induces track formation, influences porosity development, and impacts potential applications in nanostructuring and optoelectronic devices.
The lecturer also presented a brief overview of the (14UD) heavy ion accelerator at the Australian National University, a state-of-the-art research facility that enables cutting-edge interdisciplinary, fundamental, and applied research.
The session was moderated and the lecturer was introduced by Dr. Hanan Sa’adeh, Professor of Atomic and Molecular Physics at the Department of Physics. A number of faculty members and students attended the seminar and exchanged ideas with the guest speaker.
