Hepatitis C virus is still a primary cause of chronic liver disease and considered as a global health problem which often lead to hepatocellular carcinoma and liver cirrhosis. In the absence of successful vaccine against HCV, it is expected that the Virus may cause infection to a much larger proportion of the global population and can turn them as carriers. The HCV belonged to the hepacivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family. There are various types of HCV classifies on the basis of genetic diversity. In the current study we used the genomics data available for various subtypes and used the Bioinformatics approaches to identify the mass signatures associated with the specific subtype of HCV. Those mass signatures when combined with the mass spectrometry data gives us the direct confirmation of the type of the HCV. The method described in this study provided the alternative approach to classify the virus into their subtypes using Bioinformatics and mass spectrometry data alone and by pass the conventional molecular based PCR methods with appreciable sensitivity.
